A much-shared image originally posted on Twitter helped police identify two women in connection with a hit-and-run that damaged Ponak’s Mexican restaurant on Southwest Boulevard.
The image, which shows two women, was posted by the Kansas City Police Department on Tuesday.
A hit-and-run caused an estimated $200,000 in damage at Ponak’s earlier this month, according to general manager John Greer.
Never miss a local story.
The restaurant remained open and is in the process of lining up repair work.
“Social media played a big part in finding out who (the women) were,” Greer said.
The women were being sought by police in connection with the hit-and-run.
After identifying the women, police removed the photo because “people were mean ... #benice,” KCPD’s official account tweeted.
Kari Thompson, a KCPD spokeswoman, said no charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
