A 30-year-old man died early this month while serving a two-day sentence at Johnson County’s Olathe Central Booking facility.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew C. Worsham of Overland Park was found unconscious in his cell on the second day, Aug. 3, of his 48-hour sentence for driving under the influence.

Jail staff members attempted to revive him and called for an ambulance, said Master Deputy Jill Koch. He was revived later when the Johnson County MedAct ambulance arrived and was then taken to Olathe Medical Center, she said. He later died at that hospital.

He had been scheduled for release at 8:30 a.m. the day he died. Koch said circumstances surrounding his death remained under investigation.
