A 5-year-old girl was in critical condition Saturday after neighbors pulled her from a burning Independence home just after noon, a fire official said.
Two other people, a man and a woman, suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries in the blaze, said Capt. David Sellars of the Independence Fire Department.
The fire was reported just after 12:15 p.m. in the 10100 block of Winner Road.
Quick action by neighbors likely saved the girl from even more serious injuries, Sellars said.
Never miss a local story.
“Neighbors broke out the front window and pulled the little girl from the fire,” he said.
The child was rushed to an area hospital with smoke inhalation injuries and second- and third-degree burns. The adults were treated at a different hospital.
