Kansas City hopes to replace deteriorating Chouteau Courts housing project

Kansas City Housing Authority leaders are putting the finishing touches on a plan to replace the city’s most deteriorated and obsolete public housing project: Chouteau Courts, northwest of Independence Avenue and the Paseo. The plan calls for relocating about 500 residents of the apartment buildings to smaller mixed-income sites over the next five years. It also aims to improve the area’s educational, health, business development and social services.

Lobbyists got a sneak peek at Gov. Sam Brownback’s budget

Gov. Sam Brownback’s budget director used a private email account to share a working version of the governor’s proposed budget with two lobbyists three weeks before it was unveiled to lawmakers. Budget director Shawn Sullivan sent a draft of the proposal to the private emails of the governor’s former chief of staff, David Kensinger, and his former campaign manager, Mark Dugan, both of whom are lobbyists.
