U.S. Justice Department’s report on Ferguson, Mo., details racial bias

Ferguson, Mo., is one-third white, but black people accounted for 85 percent of traffic stops, 90 percent of tickets and 93 percent of arrests. Blacks accounted for 95 percent of all jaywalking arrests. The racial disparity was so stark that the Justice Department has concluded in a report scheduled for release Wednesday that the Ferguson Police Department was routinely violating the constitutional rights of its black residents.

Bill Richardson will receive the Truman Good Neighbor Award

The former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, U.S. energy secretary and New Mexico governor will be honored May 11 at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Richardson’s work “to pursue peaceful solutions and better relations among all nations of the world, as well as to implement sustainable energy policies, has been extraordinary,” said Karl Zobrist, Truman Good Neighbor Foundation president.
