Ironworkers Local 10 has been staging an informational picket at the Inergy Automotive Systems plant under construction near the General Motors plant in Kansas City, Kan.

The action, which doesn’t call for stoppage of work or deliveries, centers on non-union employment. It targets project developer NorthPoint Development and entities working on the project, including construction manager Miller-Stauch Construction Co., and subcontractors Lithko Contracting and Burk Erectors, which have the rebar installation and steel erection work.

“In our opinion, communities suffer when contractors fail to pay area standard wages and benefits,” the union’s handout said.

A NorthPoint Development executive said the company had no comment.
