Ikea has begun the hiring process to fill about 300 positions at its Merriam store scheduled to open this fall.

The Swedish home furnishings retailer has openings in areas such as home furnishings, interior design, customer service, safety, security, facility management, cashier work, receiving, warehousing and stock replenishment. The openings include about 60 food service positions at in-store restaurants.

Ikea said job candidates should go to

for available positions.

The 359,000-square-foot store is under construction on the east side of Interstate 35, south of Johnson Drive. It will be the company’s first Kansas City area store and the first in the two-state area. Ikea also recently announced plans to open a store in the St. Louis area.

Ikea, frequently on Fortune magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” operates 350 stores in 44 countries, including 38 in the United States.
