Hallmark Cards Inc. has informed employees of two upcoming staffing changes, one involving outsourcing workers and the other eliminating jobs in Canada.
The Kansas City-based company is converting about 315 temporary and on-call workers from Hallmark employees to employees of Guidant Group, a business process outsource company.
The affected workers hold a variety of jobs in Hallmark’s headquarters. The outsourcing is effective Aug. 26.
Hallmark also will start in January to eliminate about 300 positions at its distribution center and main office in Canada.
About 230 positions will be cut in its Canadian headquarters, consolidating some operations into U.S. operations. About 75 distribution center jobs in Toronto will be eliminated, consolidating that activity at Hallmark’s distribution center in Liberty.
The Canadian staff reductions will take place over about 18 months, said Hallmark spokeswoman Julie O’Dell. About 1,000 Hallmark jobs will remain in Canada, she said Wednesday.
Hallmark’s website lists about 3,200 full-time workers at its Kansas City headquarters and about 12,000 worldwide in the main company and its subsidiaries.
