Jobless rate drops to 6.1 percent

The area rate in April was a full percentage point lower than the national average, not seasonally adjusted. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said total non-farm employment for the Kansas City area was 1,004,000 in April, up 6,900, or 0.7 percent, over the year. That compared with a 1.6 percent gain in non-farm jobs nationally over the same period.
