Kansas Gas Service said its customers should beware of anyone calling posing as a utility employee and demanding payment for their natural gas bills over the phone.
The utility said there had been reports of a caller asking for customers’ debit card or electronic check information as payment for a past-due balance.
Kansas Gas Service said it does not do business that way and discouraged customers from providing personal information over the phone unless the customer had made the initial contact.
Any customer getting such a call should hang up and call Kansas Gas Service at800-794-4780, the utility said. Customers also can report the incident to their local law enforcement agency, the utility said.
