Johnson Johnson and Pharmacyclics Inc. won U.S. approval for their therapy to treat a rare blood cancer, becoming the second drug to gain marketing clearance under the process created to speed new medicines to seriously ill patients. The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it cleared ibrutinib, to be known as Imbruvica, for previously treated patients who have mantle cell lymphoma. Netflix is reprogramming the way its Internet video subscription service appears on millions of television screens in an attempt to hook viewers for even longer periods. The makeover of its TV menu started Wednesday on televisions that connect to the Internet through recently released Blu-ray disc players, PlayStation and Xbox video game consoles and the Roku 3 set-top box.
On those TVs, the design includes more visual thumbnails and details about the recommendations, including a capsule explaining why a particular movie or TV series might appeal to the interests of each subscriber.A cheaper smartphone
Motorola is making a cheaper smartphone aimed at emerging markets and budget-conscious consumers in the U.S. The company, which is owned by Google Inc., says the new Moto G phone runs recent Android software and has processors, screens and other components approaching what’s found in many high-end phones. But it’s just a third of the price.
The phone starts at $179 without a contract requirement and with 8 gigabytes of storage. A 16 gigabyte model is $199. Contract-free prices for leading phones typically exceed $600.

The U.S. Department of Transportation said Wednesday that 83.8 percent of domestic flights arrived on time in September, slightly better than a year earlier and a big improvement over July and August, when summer vacationers packed the nation’s airports.
The government also said travelers’ complaints about airlines are running 14 percent lower this year than in 2012.
