Online poker launch

The corporate owners of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas are betting their championship name will play large on the Internet with the planned launch of their real-money gambling website. WSOP.com will be the second entry in Nevada’s online poker world when it opens Thursday. Ultimate Gaming, a subsidiary of Las Vegas-based Station Casinos, became the first April 30 when it started an online partnership with Ultimate Poker. WSOP.com will be available for people who live in and visit Nevada, one of three states in the U.S. with legalized online betting.

Top truck

General Motors’ redesigned Chevrolet Silverado has received the highest rating from Consumer Reports among all pickups, edging out Chrysler’s Ram 1500. The victory marks Chevrolet’s second top rating from Consumer Reports in the past two months after the magazine gave the Impala the highest marks among sedans, the first time in at least 20 years that a U.S. automaker has outscored all Japanese and European competitors in that segment.

Aflac exit

Aflac is withdrawing from the Medicare supplement market after results fell short of goals in the first year. Medicare supplement plans are offered by private insurers to fill in gaps for the U.S. program for the elderly, including paying for out-of-pocket expenses not covered by Medicare. The policies have faced increased competition in recent years from another offering from private industry, Medicare Advantage plans, which generally cost less.

Targeting teens

Teen retailers, led by Aeropostale and Abercrombie Fitch, have been deepening discounts and adding sales days to draw young shoppers into stores amid high unemployment and the absence of a major fashion trend. Aeropostale offered a promotion every day from July 14 through Sept. 7, and the average discounts were deeper than the previous year in at least five of the eight weeks in that period, according to SaleTally data analyzed by Bloomberg News. Abercrombie marked down merchandise an average of at least 40 percent in every week in that period, with discounts the same or steeper half the time.

Trying his luck

Andrew Luck said he wanted to prove himself on the field in the National Football League before pursuing sponsorship opportunities off it. After leading the Indianapolis Colts into the playoffs as a rookie in 2012 and orchestrating eight game-winning drives in his first 17 regular season games, Luck said he is now looking to “reap the benefits” from endorsements. The Colts’ 24-year-old quarterback has agreed to an equity stake in Body Armor’s SuperDrink, with a multiyear brand partnership in which he will appear in national and regional advertising.

Refreshed Bing

Yahoo isn’t the only Web property with a new look. Microsoft’s Bing search engine is unveiling a revamped website with a redesigned logo. The brand’s new typeface was “created to be simple, real and direct” and better match the font used on other Microsoft products. The company also changed how it displays search results, moving from three columns to two.
