Apple Inc.’s shipments of iPad tablet computers to China grew to 1.48 million units in the second quarter, up from 1.15 million a year earlier, research firm IDC said. That’s still far ahead of its competitors, but they saw gains too. Samsung’s tablet shipments jumped to 571,000 from 133,000. Lenovo’s rose to 413,000 from 204,000.
Wells Fargo cuts mortgage jobsWells Fargo Co., the biggest U.S. home lender, is cutting 2,300 jobs from its mortgage production unit because higher interest rates are cutting demand for refinancings. Other smaller cuts have been made in the past few weeks around the country. The cuts would equal about 20 percent of the 11,406 mortgage loan officers employed by the company at the end of March. Wells Fargo has said mortgage lending will slow for the rest of this year as higher interest rates make refinancing less attractive.
