The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Overland Park has completed the first phase of an approximately $7 million renovation of the 190-room property.

Management on Wednesday will officially open the completely renovated 10,000 square feet of meeting space along with a refurbished main lobby, fitness center and business center. The hotel, known as the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Overland Park West, is at 8787 Reeder.

In addition, 100 of the guest rooms have been upgraded with new furniture, carpeting, electrical wiring and other features, said David Brown, the hotel’s general manager.

The work, which began in late March, is the first part of a three-phase project that is expected to be completed by 2015. Brown said the first-phase cost about $2 million.

The 40-year-old hotel is owned by Iowa-based Kinseth Hospitality. The Holiday Inn has between 70 to 90 employees.

Brown said the remainder of the guest rooms will be upgraded, followed by the renovation of the swimming pool area and restaurant and bar.
