A $25 million apartment complex billed as the first market-rate development in Wyandotte County in 25 years has opened at 130th Street and State Avenue.
The 228-unit Heights at Delaware Ridge has rented 40 of its first 50 apartments already with rates that are unsubsidized, and the development is expected to be completed by mid-December, said developer Tom Smith of Gold Crown Properties.
“It’s been received extremely well,” Smith said. “We had high expectations as the first new apartments in western Wyandotte County and it’s fulfilling everything we thought.”
The apartments are being leased not only to employees of the booming commercial area near Kansas Speedway known as Village West, but military personnel from nearby Fort Leavenworth, Smith said.
When first announced a year ago, Heights at Delaware Ridge was expected to include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with monthly rents ranging from $750 to $1,250.
Since its announcement, another apartment complex has started construction in western Wyandotte County — the 306-unit Village West Luxury Apartments along 110th Street near CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
The last market-rate apartment complex developed in Wyandotte County was the 320-unit Madison Wood View near Interstate 35 and 18th Street Expressway in 1986.
