NorthPoint Development has landed a major tenant for the logistics park it is developing at the new BNSF intermodal facility in Edgerton.
Demdaco, a firm that specializes in bric-a-brac and home decor products, plans to occupy a 326,650-square-foot distribution center at the 1,100-acre Logistics Park Kansas City development. The $18 million building is the third project announced for the park, which is scheduled to open this fall.
NorthPoint also is building a 500,000-square-foot speculative distribution center in the logistics park, and the DeLong Co. Inc. is opening a grain distribution facility. BNSF developed the facility to expand its capacity to haul freight by train from the West Coast and then redistribute it by truck to its final destination.
“We are thrilled to be one of the first tenants to relocate to Logistics Park Kansas City, adjacent to the BNSF intermodal facility,” said Steve Fowler, chief operating officer of Demdaco. “This move will improve our operating efficiencies by being in a new, state-of-the-art facility and by being very close to the intermodal site through which most of our product is delivered.”
Among the product lines carried by Demdaco are Willow Tree and Big Sky Carvers figurines. The company manages all aspects of bringing its products to market, including distribution. The firm’s current location is 1253 Quebec St. in North Kansas City.
As part of the agreement to locate at the logistics park, once the Demdaco cargo containers are emptied, they will be filled with grain by DeLong and reshipped to the West Coast. The arrangement is expected to reduce costs for both firms.
