Wisconsin-based Toppers Pizza plans to open its first area location on June 28.
The company took a spot in Mission Crossing, 6027A Metcalf Ave., Mission.
Company officials will be in town Friday looking at sites for a second location, probably in Johnson County or Lawrence.

Toppers makes its dough fresh daily, it is then hand-stretched and topped with Wisconsin cheese and fresh ingredients. Customers can choose from 16 dipping sauces and six pizza sauces.
Its specialty pizzas include Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Mac ’N Cheese, Buffalo Chicken, Smoky BBQ Chicken, Maui Topper with Canadian bacon and pineapple, and Loaded Tot-zza with tater tots and bacon.
It also has signature breadsticks called Topperstix that come in such flavors as Tacostix, Chocolate Baconstix and its new Cheese Garlicstix, with three sauces. They account for about 30 percent of the company’s sales and nearly 40% of all orders include Topperstix. Other menu items include a variety of baked Buffalo wings.
The locations are open until 3 a.m. daily, and also offer carryout and delivery.
The first Toppers Pizza opened in Whitewater, Wis., in 1993, and there are now 74 locations in a dozen states. Nearly a year ago, Olathe-based Charma Inc. signed a deal to open five locations in the Kansas City area.
Charma’s owners, Kris and Sally Milligan of Olathe, said they wanted to sign with a pizza company that was less about sales volume and more about product and service.
“That’s why we were drawn to this. That’s what Toppers’ core values are,” said Kris Milligan.
Technomic, a research and consulting firm for the food and foodservice industry, recently named Toppers one of the nation’s five fastest growing brands in the limited-service pizza restaurant category, calling it a “fierce competitor in the $40 billion pizza industry.”
With Toppers Pizza, Mission Crossing will be at 100 percent occupancy. The center also is home to such tenants as Freebirds World Burrito and Gigi’s Cupcakes.
The Mission Toppers Pizza will have a grand opening on July 2. The first 50 customers will get a free pizza a week for a year.
