J. Gilbert’s kicks off effort to expand its brand

J. Gilbert’s Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood has launched a franchising program to expand the restaurant brand across the nation.
The restaurant, owned by Kansas City-based Houlihan’s Restaurants Inc., expects to open two or three new locations each year, Houlihan’s said in a statement.
J. Gilbert’s was launched about 20 years ago and operates five corporate-owned restaurants, including one in Overland Park. The others are in St. Louis; Columbus, Ohio; McLean, Va.; and Glastonbury, Conn.
Each J. Gilbert’s restaurant will be about 7,000 square feet, with seating capacity for about 210 customers. Franchise locations are expected to serve dinner only and employ about 70 full-time and part-time workers, Houlihan’s said.
“J. Gilbert’s provides something that’s currently missing in the full-service restaurant category, high-quality cuisine in a welcoming, non-intimidating atmosphere,” said Rob Ellis, Houlihan’s chief financial officer and chief development officer.
The restaurants, named after Kansas City restaurateur Joe Gilbert, is one of five full-service brands owned by Houlihan’s.
