Several restaurateurs have taken over this spot at 1403 W. 39th St. But they’ve failed to match the success of former longtime tenant Macaluso’s.
After stints as Scotty’s on 39th, Bella Restaurant and Coffeehouse, and Kansas Town, the space is now set to become Mo Brew.
But Chad Sander, managing partner of Mo Brew, said he is bringing something unique to 39th Street.
Sander, who also is a partner in the popular Drunken Worm next door, as well as John’s Big Deck downtown, plans a major redesign of the space.
Never miss a local story.
The wall behind the bar will be lined with different bottled beers - mostly American craft beers. It also will feature comfort foods, as well as small plates for sharing and nightly dinner specials.
Mo Brew also will offer different entertainments nightly — from game nights like video trivia to food challenges to stand-up comedy.
An early December opening is scheduled.
Hours will be 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
New “resale” boutique for 39th
Kulture on 39th a Thrift Boutique, 1301 W. 39th St., is scheduled to open Saturday.
Red Racks Thrift Store asked area fashion blogger and wardrobe stylist Lindsey Kupper to come up with a new resale “boutique” concept.
“I wanted to give West 39th Street a local community-feel store, focusing on apparel and accessories from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s,” said Kupper, manager of Kulture. “All of the items are handpicked. If you are looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind garment, that’s what we are going to have. For people who like to create their own style.”
Red Racks Thrift Store is owned by the Disabled American Veterans of Kansas City. It has about a dozen stores in Missouri including five in the metro. At first it just wanted to open a donation drop-off center in the 39th Street area, but because of city codes it needed a retail component.
“That area is very eclectic so was very conducive to retro and vintage. So we thought it was good fit,” said Doug DePew, manager of retail operations for Red Racks Thrift Store.
Kupper’s fashion blog is at Jujoustyle.com.
