Wichita’s Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is planning another Olathe restaurant.
The chain is taking over the former Back Yard Burgers at 19020 W. 151st Terrace. The parking lot will be expanded and a double drive-through installed. Construction likely won’t start for at least a couple of months with a late fall opening planned.
Freddy’s offers cooked-to-order selections including steakburgers, Vienna beef hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, chili, fries and frozen custard.
The first Freddy's opened in 2002 and the chain now operates five area locations — including one that opened in January in Lee’s Summit — six restaurants in the Wichita area and one in the Dallas area. They also have 101 franchise locations in 18 states.
A new Overland Park location at College Boulevard and King Street is scheduled to open in late July and a Lenexa location at 16300 W. 87th St. Parkway, is scheduled to open in late August. An additional location is in the early development stages for the Northland.
The company also plans to open a restaurant at 210 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph, Mo., in late October.
In a statement, Monte Jump, spokesman for Back Yard Burgers, said the company has seen 12 consecutive months of system-wide sales improvement.
“In this case, the franchisee of this unit had fulfilled his obligation with our company, and was offered a buy out for the real estate that his store occupied. This was purely a sound business decision on his part, and we understand his reasoning.....Back Yard Burgers values their customers in the Olathe, KS market, and is focused on returning to operations here as soon as possible.”
