Tiger Tail Saloon is now open in downtown Kansas City.
But that name won’t be on the facade.
Owner Jordan Weinberg wants to keep the new saloon and club, at 813 Walnut St., under the radar a bit.
When he was a teenager growing up on Tiger Tail Road in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, he would just say “party on Tiger Tail” to let friends know to come over.
“My brother and I were musicians and we always had bands,” Weinberg said. “I opened up a punk club in a suburb of Los Angeles. Some of those renowned punk bands will come out and play at the new place.”
Weinberg has remodeled the main floor for more of a nightclub atmosphere to match the new club opening in the basement. A late June opening is scheduled for the club.
Tiger Tail is just selling drinks for now. It plans to roll out a food menu next Monday that will include New York-style gourmet pizza (Weinberg will bring in some dough ingredients including water from New York and also have wild game as a topping), along with a patty melt (a favorite at The Stables Bar and Grill, which formerly occupied the spot).
Tiger Tail will soon have a large outdoor patio along Walnut that will wrap around into the parking garage to the north. It also will offer customers free parking.
The Stables Bar and Grill, which had been in the spot since at least 1976 according to the city directories, was popular with downtown workers and residents looking for lunch and after-work drinks.
