Dean & DeLuca is expanding in Leawood.

The international market at 4700 W. 119th St. plans to enclose its outdoor patio on the south side of the building to make it comfortable for customers throughout the year. It also is adding a new retail area on the south side of the building for more made-from-scratch pastries.

Construction is scheduled to start in the spring and completed this summer. The store will be open during construction.

“We’ve done great in Kansas City. It was time to update our fixtures and the concept a bit,” said Josh Hodapp, vice president of operations for Dean & DeLuca.

Doug Huddleston, formerly of The Pastry Goddess, is joining the store as pastry manager.

In other Town Center Plaza news, Altar’d State is looking at the center for its second area location.

The Knoxville, Tenn.-based company says it serves women whether they are “16 or 60” who want to express their personality in stylish, comfortable, and trendy clothes, shoes and accessories. Items include cap-sleeved lace dresses, Minnetonka Woodstock knee-high boots or fringe leather cowboy boots, eyelet peplum tops, denim distressed dresses, striped sweaters, and crocheted sunglass cases for children.

The company also tries to contribute where its has stores. Mondays are “Mission Mondays,” and 10 percent of net profits are donated to local charities.

Altar’d State also has a store in Zona Rosa in the Northland.
