Four years ago, Angela Resch’s 6-year-old son was diagnosed with severe food allergies.
She searched for safe substitutes and when she couldn’t find the high quality she wanted, she started working on her own recipes.
She wanted food items that were as good — or even better — than what his friends were eating.
Soon she was making so many tasty baked goods that her friends with gluten and other allergies began asking her to bake some for them.
Now Resch will really broaden her base by opening a gluten-free and allergen-friendly bakery next week in south Overland Park.
Mama Resch’s will serve a variety of products including millet sandwich bread, banana bread, vegan multi-purpose buns, oatmeal cookies, Snickerdoodles, baked chocolate donuts, graham crackers, sun-dried tomato crackers, chocolate chip granola bars, and pancake mix.
The bakery, in Metcalf 127 at 12635 Metcalf Ave., is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on Dec. 18.
Hours will 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sunday and Monday.
