A former Popeyes Louisiana Chicken in midtown has reopened as Shawarmar Mediterranean Grill.
Husband-and-wife Ibraheem Kaseb and Abeer Jari opened the restaurant, at 23 E. Linwood Blvd. near Costco and Home Depot, in late January. They plan a grand opening later this month.
It specializes in bowls — falafel, shawarma, kabab and shawarma potato — as well as Mediterranean wraps.
It has fattoush or tabouli salads and sides that include eggplant mutabal, rice bowls, falafel and crinkle-cut fries. It also offers four sauces — garlic, tahini, spicy garlic and shatta — for 50 cents, as well as hot mint tea, lentil soup, hummus with pita bread and baklava for dessert.
“My goal was to open my own business and my husband helped me with that,” Jari said. “I’ve been in the U.S. for 12 years now and I wanted to offer something Mediterranean that isn’t from a box — fast and healthy and at a good price. I feed my kids from this store.”
