Five years after opening in Overland Park, El Fogon is opening a Westport location.
The family-owned and operated restaurant took over the former Imo’s Pizza space at 4037 Mill St. and just completed a major remodeling. It hopes to open by early June.
Menu items include steak, chicken, chorizo, marinated beef or pork tacos; steak, chicken, chorizo, pork leg, seasoned pork or ham tortas; cheese, steak, chicken, chorizo or seasoned pork quesadillas; and steak, chicken, chorizo, seasoned pork or marinated beef burritos.
“The way that we prepare the food is the way my mom does it at home, and when we were growing in Michoacán, Mexico, so it is very, very authentic,” said partner Karlo Valencia.

El Fogon also has specialty dishes such as the Hawaiano with seasoned steak, ham, pineapple and cheese, and several desserts including flan.
Tacos are $1.39 on Tuesdays. Salsas and tortillas are made on-site daily.
It opened at 10450 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, in May 2012.
