BKS Artisan Ales is a neighborhood-focused brewery and taproom opening soon in Brookside. It is housed in one of several East 63rd Street commercial properties redeveloped by Butch Rigby, who has a vision for the area.
John Middelkamp, the owner of Zoom, a toy store on the Plaza, plans to close in mid-January. Middelkamp is seeking a home for his expansive collection of vintage metal lunch boxes, some which date back to 1935. Middelkamp hopes to find a home for the entire collection of 230 metal lunch boxes. He prefers to keep the collection intact.
Blade and Timber, a new ax-throwing club, is now open in the West Bottoms. Players enter a lane, grab an ax, lift it over their head then throw it at a target. Just like in darts, they aim for a bull's-eye. Teams are now forming, and instructors are on hand to improve performances.
Rob Magee, of Q39, opened his first restaurant in April 2014 and it has become one of the top barbecue destinations in the city. The restaurant is expanding with additional space in the midtown location and a new restaurant in Overland Park in 2017.
