The new eCafe will be a coffee shop on one side and a workplace for mobile workers and home-based professionals on the other.
The freestanding-building, at 10650 Roe Ave. in Overland Park, will have a fully equipped conference room that can be rented by the hour with video conferencing, as well as meeting areas. It also will have wireless internet, mailboxes, lockers, shipping services, shredding services, mobile gear and a complete supply of office products. It is scheduled to open in early October.
Partner David Rayl has operated executive suites and services in Johnson Country for nearly 20 years.
“People, especially young people, are desiring to work in a more mobile environment,” he said. “People understand coffee shops, UPS, FedEx, what the post office does and co-working spaces. This combines them all.”
Rayl came up with the eCafe concept and is opening it with his wife, Cathy Rayl, and their daughter, Lisa Dimond.
Overland Park’s The Drawing Board closes
Just a few months after opening in Overland Park, The Drawing Board Restaurant & Pub has closed.
The building housed Wil Jenny’s until it closed in March 2014. Then Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery, a Celtic-themed sports bar known for its scantily clad servers, opened in March 2015. But the 9,000-square-foot space at 6700 W. 135th St. was about twice the size of a typical Tilted Kilt and it closed a year later.
The Drawing Board opened in May featuring a “scratch kitchen and classic crafted cocktails.” But it also recently closed. The owners couldn’t be reached for comment.
Equip-bid.com is auctioning most of the inventory — including bar stools, highchairs, food processors, even a couch with throw pillows — until 7:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Leawood’s BRGR Kitchen + Bar update
BRGR Kitchen + Bar is scheduling a Monday opening in Leawood.
Parent company Bread & Butter Concepts remodeled the 6,775-square-foot former Barley’s Brewhaus space at 5031 W. 135th St.
The BRGR Kitchen + Bar menu includes more than a dozen specialty burgers, as well as “not-so-burgers” such as a marinated and grilled portabella on a multigrain bun, and blackened salmon filet with sweet onion marmalade and chipotle aioli. Customers can also choose from salads, bowls and “snacks” like Chile fondue and fried pickle spears. The restaurants focus on fresh, local ingredients.
Barley’s also had remodeled the space for a mid-2013 opening. Officials with Barley’s declined to comment on the closing.
Bread & Butter Concepts was founded in 2009. Its other concepts are the Urban Table, Gram & Dun, Taco Republic, Taco Republic Truck and The Oliver. Its Stock Hill Kansas City Steakhouse is under construction just south of the Country Club Plaza and its 10,000-square-foot Cherry Hall event center, at 1720 Cherry St., is scheduled to open in early 2017.
