Kansas City Public Schools is extending until July 7 the deadline for submitting bids to redevelop the 18.3-acre site of the closed Robeson Middle School at 8201 Holmes Road.
The 151,800-square-foot building, once part of the former Jewish Community Center in south Kansas City, has been closed since 2004. It is one of many former Kansas City buildings offered for reuse when no longer used as schools.
The building, which dates to 1957, has been heavily damaged. Developers indicate that the land, rather than the building, is likely to attract more interest.
The school district put the property on its surplus list and made it available for purchase in February. It’s being marketed by Block Real Estate Services.
Never miss a local story.
Shannon Jaax, the official in charge of the district’s school repurposing program, said the district will not make public the number of bids it receives or the proposed reuses until it completes due diligence reviews.
