Uber is discounting rides this weekend to places around Kansas City important to the area’s LGBT community.
Last Sunday, 49 people were killed and more than 50 were injured when a gunman opened fire in an Orlando gay nightclub. It was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The San Francisco company has been giving free rides to the families of the victims and survivors since the shooting, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
“Like people across the world, we were deeply shocked and saddened by the recent murders at a gay nightclub in Orlando,” the news release said. “The world is a brighter and better place when we are all free to be ourselves. And we want to bring people together, no matter who you are or where you’re from.
Kansas City is one of 40 cities where Uber is offering discounts.
On Uber’s list are this weekend’s Big Gay Yard Sale, which supports the Heartland Men’s Chorus; Missie B’s, a nightclub; and LikeMe Lighthouse, an LGBT community center.
The other places are Hamburger Mary’s, Woody’s, Sidekick Saloon and Bistro 303. The news release said these are “places around Kansas City that are important to the history and culture of the local LGBT community.”
The discount will be up to $20 and will end Monday night.
