Jon “Malcolm” Richards has been hired as the new district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Kansas City district office, filling a post that had been vacant more than a year.
As head of the district office, Richards will oversee SBA programs and services in 61 counties in the western half of Missouri and 28 counties in the eastern part of Kansas, as well as the Springfield, Mo., SBA branch office. Programs include SCORE and Small Business Development Centers within the district, among other business counseling and financing roles.
Richards previously was the SBA’s acting deputy district director of the New York district office in New York City. He also had worked for the agency in Rochester, N.Y., and Buffalo, N.Y. Before joining the SBA, he worked in the commercial banking industry and owned and managed a small business.
The SBA office in Kansas City is at 1000 Walnut St.
