Cerner Corp.’s $1.3 billion cash purchase of Siemens’ health information technology business unit, Siemens Health Services, has cleared a regulatory hurder. Cerner said Thursday that the Federal Trade Commission had granted early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, one of the conditions closing the acquisition. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2015.
Cerner announced its acquisition plans last month. Based on 2014 estimates, Cerner and Siemens Health Services combined would have 20,000 employees in more than 30 countries, $4.5 billion of annual revenue and $650 million of annual research and development investment.
