Limousine service is a dream come true for Syrian immigrant

When Fariz Turkmani arrived in the United States in 1979, he spoke no English. Turkmani had just landed at John F. Kennedy Airport, had no change in his pocket to call a friend and he didn’t even know how to dial an American telephone number. But the kindness of strangers made the difference.

Kenneth Feinberg: No Teamsters pension decision, yet

Feinberg, charged by the U.S. Treasury, faces a deadline Saturday to rule on the legality of the Central States Pension Fund’s plan to cut current retiree benefits, many by half or more. He denied Monday a claim that he has made his decision but not yet made it public. Feinberg also rejected a claim he has given out “hints” that he will reject the proposal.

Public invited to vote on KC’s top development project this year

The Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City has selected 10 finalists for its 2016 Cornerstone Awards, which recognize investments in the city. The finalists will vie for four additional honors: lifetime achievement, innovation, and “made in KC,” and a new people’s choice category introduced this year. Voting is open online for the people’s choice award through May 10.
