Sprint said it has agreed to merge its Lifeline wireless service brand called Assurance Wireless into Access Wireless, which also sells wireless coverage under the federal assistance program on Sprint’s network. The merged company will operate under Access Wireless’s brand called i-wireless though Sprint will own 70 percent of the business. Paul McAleese, who founded and leads i-wireless will run the combined business if the merger receives regulatory approval.
Sprint Corp. will report its latest customer counts and financial results Tuesday morning, completing the picture of its fiscal year and its standing among the four national carriers. Sprint finished December with 58.359 million customer connections to its wireless network and had lost $1.44 billion in the first nine months of is fiscal year.

An index created from the survey results registered 50.1. It had been 50.6 in March. Readings above 50 neutral indicate economic growth while readings below 50 show contraction.

Manny Lopez, a West Side icon known for his charisma, work ethic and community support, died Friday night at his home, surrounded by family. “Manny had an incredible spirit,” oldest daughter Kathy Lopez-Ritz said of the father of five who had been married to his wife, Vivian, for 42 years. “He was a very giving and caring man.”
