Nationally, SAT scores slip for high school seniors

The report says that SAT — college entrance exam — averages have dropped by 28 points since 2006, and the scoring gap among racial groups has widened in that time. The College Board reported that SAT scores declined in the last nine years “for every group except Asian-Americans.”

Despite disappointing job growth last month, the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since early 2008, sharpening the debate within the Federal Reserve over whether to raise interest rates when policymakers meet in two weeks. Labor Day drivers will pay lowest gasoline prices since 2004

It has been more than a decade since U.S. drivers paid so little to fuel up for that last road trip of summer. The national average price of gasoline this Labor Day weekend will be its lowest at this time of year since 2004, a result of low oil prices and a quiet hurricane season that has allowed refineries to churn out gasoline and diesel. Kansas City area prices at the pump average $2.35 a gallon going into the weekend.
