Police on Sunday identified a man shot Friday by an officer responding to a call at a house in east Kansas City.
The man, Rodney A. Jones, 44, lived at the home in the 10300 block of E. 43rd Street east of the Truman Sports Complex.
A police news release said three officers responded to a call of a disturbance at the house about 9 p.m. Friday. The call came from the house.
One of those officers went to the front door, and two went to a rear door so they could catch any possible suspect who might run from the home, police said. A woman at the home had told police a relative inside was intoxicated.
Police said Jones confronted the officer at the front door while carrying a large handgun with a scope attachment and pointed the weapon at the officer.
“The officer subsequently shot and killed him,” the police release said.
That officer, who was not injured, has been on the Kansas City police force for two and a half years. Following standard procedure, the officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
