Lampson named new chief judge of Wyandotte County District Court

The Kansas Supreme Court announced today that Judge R. Wayne Lampson will become the new chief judge of the Wyandotte County District Court.

Lampson is succeeding the current chief judge, Philip L. Sieve, who is retiring later this month. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will appoint a successor to fill Sieve’s judge position later this summer.

Lampson was appointed to the bench in 1995, following the death of Judge David Lamar. Prior to his appointment, Lampson served as the Wyandotte County counselor, representing the Wyandotte County commission and county government agencies. He also was a pro tem judge for the city’s municipal court and for the Wyandotte County District Court.

During his career, Lampson was in private law practice in Kansas City, Kan., and has served as an assistant city attorney for Kansas City, Kan., and as an assistant district attorney.

In his new duties, Lampson will take over the management responsibilities of the court, including assigning judicial caseloads and directing all clerical and administrative personnel.
