    Shooting victim identified; suspect arrested

Police this morning identified the man shot to death outside an apartment complex northwest of the University of Kansas Medical Center as Everett Suits, 38, of Kansas City, Kan.

Police also said they have one person in custody in connection with the homicide.

Police responding to a call about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday found Suits, who had a gunshot wound, lying in a rear parking lot of apartments near 38th Avenue and Booth Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police were not releasing the suspect’s identity, saying the person was awaiting formal charges.

University of Kansas police said Suits has no affiliation with the university. The department reminded staff and students that escorts are available to those headed to outer parking lots by calling 913-588-5030.

Police asked anyone with information about the homicide to call 913-573-6020 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
