    Excelsior Springs man accused of stealing drugs

    Authorities in Clay County have charged a 17-year-old for allegedly breaking into an Excelsior Springs pharmacy and stealing hundreds Xanax tablets.

    Zachery Tyler Coursen of Excelsior Springs faces one count of second-degree burglary and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

    According to authorities, Coursen allegedly broke into the Jack Monroe Pharmacy in the 1200 block of North Jesse James Road on Feb. 16. Police arrived and found shattered glass, a large hole left in a glass door and other debris.

    The owner of the business told police that among the items missing was four bottles containing 1,000 tablets of Xanax, which is used for anxiety disorders; two bottles containing 500 Norco, a narcotic pain reliever; cash and other items, according to court records.
