John Battaglia

Jackson County prosecutors today accused John I. Battaglia, 25, of using a Corvette to try to run over a Kansas City police officer on a sidewalk.
The officer fired a shotgun at the Corvette and Battaglia was struck three times near his face.
The shooting capped a police chase that started about 1:30 a.m. today when police stopped Battaglia at Anderson and Wheeling avenues for having a license plate that didn’t match the Corvette. Battaglia allegedly jumped out of the car and ran, but circled back to the Corvette and drove off. He allegedly tried to run over a police officer in the roadway, who fired at him.
Battaglia allegedly made a U-turn and drove again at the officer, who was on the sidewalk. The officer fired again. The Corvette was disabled after jumping the curb.
Prosecutors charged Battaglia with assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action. His injuries were non life-threatening, police said.
Battaglia was charged in September with driving while revoked and was wanted for failing to appear in court.
