Early morning shooting in KC kills one, wounds another

A man was found shot to death this morning in the backyard of a Northeast Kansas City residence and another man was seriously wounded.

Kansas City police were called shortly before 2 a.m. to the 3000 block of Peery Avenue where a man told him that he and a friend had been shot. That man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and police began searching the area for the second victim.

A few minutes later they were called to the 3100 block of E. 12th Street and found the second victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified him as Jonathan Conklin, 23, of Kansas City.
