A 40-year-old south Kansas City woman was killed and another woman was injured Thursday in a freak accident at a Grandview car wash.
Grandview police said the women were sitting on a bench in front of the business, 12204 Blue Ridge Blvd., waiting for their vehicles to come out of the car wash at 3:55 p.m. when they were struck by an SUV that apparently went out of control as it emerged from the wash.
The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at an area hospital of massive internal injuries, police said. Her name has not yet been released. The other woman, 66 and also of south Kansas City, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The SUV was flipped onto its side. Police said the driver, a 66-year-old Leawood man who had stayed in his vehicle as it went through the wash, was shaken but uninjured. The accident is under investigation.
