Samuel Jacob Williams

An Emporia State University student athlete who had been missing for three days was found dead along a road in Lyon County.
A county sheriff’s deputy, who had heard that Emporia State track star Samuel Jacob Williams enjoyed weekend motorcycle rides, found the student’s body about one-tenth mile off the roadway near the K-99 intersection with Lyon County Road 190, just north of Emporia.
Police said Williams, 24, was the victim of a motorcycle accident Sunday evening. Police think he lost control of his motorcycle on a curve, struck a road sign, and was thrown from the vehicle.
Williams, a junior business management major from the Ivory Coast, on the coast of western Africa, was an All-American indoor and outdoor track athlete.
A memorial is being held at 8 tonight at Welch Stadium.
