The Emmett Till Justice Campaign will host a truth and justice rally from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center.
The keynote speaker will be Jerry Mitchell, an investigative reporter known for his work on unsolved murders of the civil-rights era. Mitchell just won a MacArthur “genius grant.” The event is open to the public. To reserve a seat, call 816-808-1772.
“The Truth and Justice Rally is an event designed to create a justice-seeking atmosphere around all unsolved civil rights era murders,” said Alvin Sykes, president of the Emmett Till Justice Campaign and architect of the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act. “By bringing together victim’s family members, witnesses, friends, and community supporters with law enforcement officials we have this last, sometime best, chance to find the truth and secure, where possible, justice for these victims of unsolved civil rights era murders.”
