Man shot in Olathe gunfight with federal task force

More News

Officers in a federal task force exchanged fire Sunday night with a man who they said drew a weapon when they tried to arrest him outside an Olathe restaurant.

The man had an outstanding warrant in Johnson County for aggravated assault, said Brian Truchon, the FBI special agent in charge.

Officers who were tracking the man confronted him outside the Subway restaurant at 151st Street and Ridgeview Road about 7:15 p.m. The suspect drew a gun and exchanged fire with officers, Truchon said.

The man suffered several gunshot wounds, reportedly to the torso and arm, and was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available and officials did not release his name.

No officers were injured.

Alex Wolfe, an EMT who also works at the Pizza Shoppe nearby, went out when he saw police cars swarming onto the scene and helped treat the injured man, he said.

“It got pretty exciting there for a while,” Wolfe said.

The officers were part of the FBI Violent Crime Safe Streets Task Force, which is a cooperative effort of several law-enforcement agencies.
