Exhausted vaccine supply canceled today’s seasonal influenza clinic on the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas.
Additional clinics will be scheduled when more vaccine is available, but when the new order for 800 more doses will arrive is unknown. About 1,250 doses of seasonal vaccine have been administered at KU in five clinics so far this fall. Last year, KU gave out 2,117 doses in 12 clinics.
On Nov. 6, 500 doses of the H1N1 vaccine will be available to students free on a first-come, first-serve basis between noon and 2 p.m. at the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. Most vaccines given will be nasal mists.
To be eligible for the H1N1 vaccine, students must be 24 or younger unless they have medical conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, that put them at higher risk for flu-related complications.
Seasonal shots will be available Saturday at the KU medical center in Kansas City, Kan., at its annual, free “Drive-Thru Flu Shot” event from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. (or while supplies last). No H1N1 vaccinations will be available.
Shots are available to anyone 18 and older. To support Harvesters, the Community Food Network, attendees can donate non-perishable food items, paper products or a monetary gift.
