The Park Hill School District has won a Missouri Quality Award, making it the first school district in the state to receive such recognition.
The award recognizes Missouri companies and organizations that have developed successful strategies for improving Missouri-produced goods and services.
“It is a very big deal and we are very excited about being named,” Superintendent Dennis Fisher said. “We are in a time period when education is under attack for underperformance; we are pleased to be identified as a world-class organization.”
Award recipients include organizations that demonstrate high standards of excellence in leadership. The awards were first presented in 1993.
Other recipients this year are St. Mary’s Health System in Jefferson City and Concordia Publishing House in St. Louis.
Raina Knox, president of the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, which presents the annual awards, said Park Hill excelled in each of the measures used to judge applicants.
The criteria mirror those of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, named after the late secretary of commerce.
The state award is open to Missouri-based profit and nonprofit organizations in the manufacturing, service, education, public and health sectors.
“This is a validation to our community that we are meeting and exceeding their expectations,” Fisher said. “We think we have a pretty good story to tell with regard to our student performance and organizational efficiency.”
Knox said it is now common for school districts to apply for the annual award.
