A DNA test has linked a current Missouri prison inmate with the 2001 sexual assault of a woman in Kansas City, prosecutors said today.
Jimmie L. Holman was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with forcible rape and forcible sodomy. A $250,000 cash bond was set.
Holman, 26, of Kansas City, is serving a 120-day “shock incarceration” sentence after he was convicted earlier this year of drug trafficking charges, according to court records.
A 54-year-old woman reported the sexual assault in September 2001.
She told police that was in the area of 31st Street and Troost Avenue when a man in a car drove up and asked for directions. The man pointed a gun at her and forced her into his car, according to court documents.
He then drove her to a duplex in south Kansas City where she was assaulted. After the attack, the suspect drove her to a convenience store and left the area.
Investigators conducted DNA testing on evidence, but it was not linked to a suspect until this August when the results of a DNA sample Holman was required to give when he entered the prison system was entered into a nationwide computer system.
Kansas City detectives interviewed Holman in prison and he denied knowing the woman or ever having sex with her. Another DNA sample was taken from Holman and it matched the evidence recovered at the time of the crime, according to court documents.
