Loads of families flocked to the Nelson Atkins to take part in the
"Take Me Out to the Museum," day.
Some were making it a short stop before hitting the Plaza to catch the
red carpet parade. Others saw it as a way to participate in All-Star
week related events. And for some, baseball had nothing to do with
their museum visit.
Meighan Ott with her two daughters, and Maggie Hurla with her
daughter, all from Johnson County, had no idea there even was an
All-Star parade. They came because all the day's free museum exhibits
and lawn activities - painting and a baseball toss .
Thanks to the Atterbury Family Foundation, which sponsored the free
day, Tracy Dammrich of Olathe found an event to satisfy both her boys.
Her 13-year-old likes art, her 10-year-old likes baseball.
She was a little surprise, though by the heavy mid-day traffic in the area.
"It's crazier down here than it is at Thanksgiving," Dammrich said.
