Joe Cox, president of the Social Media Club of Kansas City, is also a volunteer at the Kansas City Social Media Command Center. The center is tracking social media use in Kansas City this weekend in the hopes that volunteers can help answer questions or foresee potential problems. Cox said what has surprised him is how many people are using images, instead of text, to share information on Twitter and Facebook. He thinks this might be a result of the popularity of photo-sharing programs such as Instagram or Pinterest.
"The language of imagery is playing out," Cox said.
