FanFest's littlest players take the spotlight at Bartle

An intense game of tee ball was well underway by 9:30 a.m. Saturday at FanFest. The contenders? The Washers and the Dryers. Batting and fielding on green "astrocarpet," the players - no more than three feet tall - took their positions all over the miniature diamond for the PONY League T-Ball Exhibition Game. An announcer called out the plays, the teams' every move broadcast onto a large screen above the field. Some players took dance breaks between innings to the pop music booming from the speakers overhead. Yells of encouragement came from the bleachers as people leapt from the stands to capture shots of players sliding into home. "Come on, baby, hit it hard!" The inning ended as the entire Washers team charged with the baseball toward a Dryers player headed for home. "Safe!" the announcer called.
